**Walter Price** (born 1989) is an American [painter](/source/Painter) based in [New York City](/source/New_York_City). He is represented by [Greene Naftali](/source/Greene_Naftali_Gallery), [David Zwirner](/source/David_Zwirner), and The Modern Institute.[1][2]

## Early life

Born and raised in [Macon, Georgia](/source/Macon,_Georgia), United States, Walter Price decided to become an artist in elementary school.[3] After he saw a photo of artist [Jacob Lawrence](/source/Jacob_Lawrence) wearing a sailor's uniform and standing next to one of his paintings, Price decided to enlist in the [U.S. Navy](/source/U.S._Navy).[4] He served four years in the navy aboard the [USS *Whidbey Island*](/source/USS_Whidbey_Island_(LSD-41)).[5] His military service enabled him to pursue his art education on the [GI Bill.](/source/G.I._Bill)[5]

## Career

Price's artistic practice often involves materials beyond acrylic or vinyl paint, as he incorporates fabric and photographs into his works.[6] The paintings, often on wood panel, embody compositions that blur the line between abstraction and figuration.[5]
