He was a member of the [New York State Assembly](/source/New_York_State_Assembly), representing [Jefferson County](/source/Jefferson_County,_New_York) in [1823](/source/46th_New_York_State_Legislature) and in [1831](/source/54th_New_York_State_Legislature).[1]
