**Walsh** is a [statutory town](/source/Colorado_municipalities#Statutory_town) in [Baca County](/source/Baca_County,_Colorado), [Colorado](/source/Colorado), United States.[4] The population was 543 at the [2020 census](/source/2020_United_States_census).[5]

## History

A post office called Walsh has been in operation since 1926.[6]

The community was named after one Mr. Walsh, an [Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway](/source/Atchison,_Topeka_and_Santa_Fe_Railway) official.[7]

## Geography

Walsh is located in eastern Baca County. [U.S. Route 160](/source/U.S._Route_160) passes along the north edge of the town, leading west 20 miles (32 km) to [Springfield](/source/Springfield,_Colorado), the county seat, and east 31 miles (50 km) to [Johnson City, Kansas](/source/Johnson_City,_Kansas).

According to the [United States Census Bureau](/source/United_States_Census_Bureau), the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2).

### Climate

According to the [Köppen Climate Classification](/source/K%C3%B6ppen_Climate_Classification) system, Walsh has a [cold semi-arid climate](/source/Cold_semi-arid_climate), abbreviated "BSk" on climate maps. The hottest temperature recorded in Walsh was 109 °F (42.8 °C) on July 17, 2022, while the coldest temperature recorded was −25 °F (−31.7 °C) on January 18, 1984.[8]
