Stanowski started his [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League) career with the [Toronto Maple Leafs](/source/Toronto_Maple_Leafs) in [1939](/source/1939%E2%80%9340_NHL_season). In 1941, he was a member of the [NHL All-Star team](/source/NHL_All-Star_team). He won four [Stanley Cup](/source/Stanley_Cup)s with the Maple Leafs.<ref name=ts120219/> Stanowski was traded to the [New York Rangers](/source/New_York_Rangers) after the 1947-48 season.<ref name=ts120219/> He retired after the [1951](/source/1950%E2%80%9351_NHL_season) season.

In 1942 Stanowski was the first Leaf defenseman to record 4 points in a playoff game, setting a franchise record that still stands today.  [Allan Stanley](/source/Allan_Stanley) (1960), [Ian Turnbull](/source/Ian_Turnbull_(ice_hockey)) (1976), and [Morgan Rielly](/source/Morgan_Rielly) (2023) are the other Leafs who have done it since.

Stanowski was the last surviving member of [Maple Leafs 1942](/source/1941%E2%80%9342_Toronto_Maple_Leafs_season) and [1945](/source/1944%E2%80%9345_Toronto_Maple_Leafs_season) Stanley Cup team.<ref name=ts120219/>
