**Walkford** is a suburb of [Christchurch](/source/Christchurch%2C_Dorset), in the [electoral ward](/source/Electoral_ward) of [Highcliffe and Walkford](/source/Highcliffe_and_Walkford), in the [unitary authority](/source/Unitary_authorities_of_England) of [Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole](/source/Bournemouth%2C_Christchurch_and_Poole), in the [ceremonial](/source/Ceremonial_counties_of_England) [county](/source/Counties_of_England) of [Dorset](/source/Dorset), England. The suburb historically was in [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire).[1]

## History

The name "Walkeforde" is first recorded in the 15th century in connection with [Milton parish](/source/New_Milton) to the east.[2] The name likely referred to a crossing over the Chewton stream, (now known as the Walkford Brook).[2] A settlement called Walkford is first noted in the late 19th century, and much of the Walkford area was developed in the early-to-mid 20th century.[2]

## Politics

Walkford shares a parish council and a [BCP Council](/source/BCP_Council) [ward](/source/Highcliffe_and_Walkford_(ward)) with [Highcliffe](/source/Highcliffe).[3] Walkford is part of the [Christchurch parliamentary constituency](/source/Christchurch_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) for elections to the [House of Commons](/source/House_of_Commons_of_the_United_Kingdom). It is currently represented by [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)) [MP](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) [Christopher Chope](/source/Christopher_Chope).

## Culture

Walkford was used as a filming location for *[One Foot in the Grave](/source/One_Foot_in_the_Grave)*.[4]
