[Satellite](/source/Satellite) image of the Walgreen Coast.

The **Walgreen Coast** ([75°30′S 107°0′W / 75.500°S 107.000°W / -75.500; -107.000](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?pagename=Walgreen_Coast&params=75_30_S_107_0_W_scale:4000000)) is a portion of the coast of [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica) between [Cape Herlacher](/source/Cape_Herlacher) and [Cape Waite](/source/Cape_Waite), or between [Eights Coast](/source/Eights_Coast) on the east and [Bakutis Coast](/source/Bakutis_Coast) in the west. It is part of [Marie Byrd Land](/source/Marie_Byrd_Land). It extends from 103°24'W to 114°12'W. It was discovered by [Richard E. Byrd](/source/Richard_E._Byrd) and members of the [US Antarctic Service](/source/US_Antarctic_Service) (USAS) by flights from the [USS *Bear*](/source/USS_Bear) during February 1940.

The Walgreen Coast was named by Byrd after [Charles R. Walgreen](/source/Charles_R._Walgreen), president of the retail company [Walgreens](/source/Walgreens) at the time, who was a funder of the [Byrd Antarctic Expedition](/source/Byrd_Antarctic_Expedition), 1933–1935, and assisted in equipping the *Bear* for the USAS, 1939–1941. This coast was mapped in detail by the [United States Geological Survey](/source/United_States_Geological_Survey) from ground surveys and [U.S. Navy](/source/U.S._Navy) air photographs, 1959–66.

It contains [Thwaites Glacier](/source/Thwaites_Glacier), also known as the "Doomsday Glacier", for its major contributions to [sea level rise](/source/Sea_level_rise) as a result of [climate change](/source/Climate_change).
