# Wal Matthews

**Llewellyn Walter Matthews** (12 May 1894 – 12 March 1973) was an [Australian rules footballer](/source/Australian_rules_football) who played with [South Melbourne](/source/Sydney_Swans) in the [Victorian Football League](/source/Victorian_Football_League_(1897%E2%80%931989)) (VFL).[1]

Matthews coached Nagambie in 1925,[2] before being appointed as captain / coach of [Benalla Football Club](/source/Benalla_Football_Club) in the [Ovens & Murray Football League](/source/Ovens_%26_Murray_Football_League) in June 1926.[3]
