It was first won by [Zandokan](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zandokan&action=edit&redlink=1), [Khaos I](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Khaos_I&action=edit&redlink=1) and [Sicodelico](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sicodelico&action=edit&redlink=1) around 1989 and was defended throughout [Mexico](/source/Mexico) until it was abandoned in 1998. As it was a professional wrestling championship, the championship was not won not by actual competition, but by a [scripted ending](/source/Kayfabe) to a match determined by the [bookers and match makers](/source/Booker_(professional_wrestling)).[a] On occasion the promotion declares a championship vacant, which means there is no champion at that point in time.
