# WS-DAI

**Web Service Data Access and Integration** (**WS-DAI**) is a suite of [web service](/source/Web_service) specifications developed by the [Open Grid Forum](/source/Open_Grid_Forum) which define [SOAP](/source/SOAP) and [WSDL](/source/WSDL)-based interfaces for access to data resources, such as [relational databases](/source/Relational_database). The WS-DAI framework is designed to complement other parts of the [Open Grid Services Architecture](/source/Open_Grid_Services_Architecture) (OGSA) for the purpose of facilitating an interoperable [service-oriented](/source/Service-oriented_architecture) [grid computing](/source/Grid_computing) architecture.[1]

The WS-DAI core specification is agnostic with respect to the underlying [data model](/source/Data_model) employed by a data resource. To this end, the OGF defined concrete "realizations" of WS-DAI tied to specific data models.[1] These are:

- WS-DAIR, for [relational databases](/source/Relational_database),
- WS-DAIX, for [XML databases](/source/XML_database), and
- WS-DAI RDF(S), for [RDF stores](/source/RDF_stores).[2]

WS-DAI can also be extended to support further realizations such as for [object databases](/source/Object_database)[1] or [data mining](/source/Data_mining).[3]
