**WAOS** (1600 [kHz](/source/Hertz) "La Mejor") is a [Spanish language](/source/Spanish_language) [commercial](/source/Commercial_radio), [AM radio](/source/AM_broadcasting) [radio station](/source/Radio_station) [licensed](/source/City_of_license) to [Austell, Georgia](/source/Austell%2C_Georgia), and serving the [Atlanta](/source/Atlanta) [radio market](/source/Radio_market). The station airs a [Regional Mexican](/source/Regional_Mexican_music) [radio format](/source/Radio_format). Programming is also [simulcast](/source/Simulcast) on [1130 AM](/source/1130_AM) **WLBA** in [Gainesville](/source/Gainesville%2C_Georgia) and on [1460 AM](/source/1460_AM) **[WXEM](/source/WXEM)** in [Buford](/source/Buford%2C_Georgia). The stations are owned by La Favorita, Inc.

WAOS is considered a [Class D](/source/List_of_North_American_broadcast_station_classes) AM station by the [Federal Communications Commission](/source/Federal_Communications_Commission). By day, it is powered at 20,000 [watts](/source/Watt). But to protect other stations on [AM 1600](/source/AM_1600), it greatly reduces power at night to 67 watts. It uses a [non-directional antenna](/source/Omnidirectional_antenna) located on Westside Road in Austell, near C. H. James Parkway ([U.S. Route 278](/source/U.S._Route_278_in_Georgia)).[1]

WLBA is also a Class D station, and is a [daytimer](/source/Daytimer). It uses a [non-directional antenna](/source/Omnidirectional_antenna) powered at 10,000 watts by day, 1,000 watts during [critical hours](/source/Critical_hours) but must [sign off](/source/Sign_off) the air at night to protect other stations on [AM 1130](/source/AM_1130), a [clear channel frequency](/source/Clear_channel_station). WLBA's [transmitter](/source/Transmitter) is off Gaines Mill Road in Gainesville.[2]

WAOS began broadcasting on April 16, 1968.[3] WLBA first [signed on](/source/Sign-on) the air on January 26, 1957.[4]
