To the north lies the [Jura](/source/Jura_Mountains) and to the south the [Alps](/source/Alps).

At their northern end, the hills drop steeply down to the River [Rhône](/source/Rh%C3%B4ne). The [Vuache Tunnel](/source/Vuache_Tunnel), carrying the A40 Geneva to [Lyon](/source/Lyon) motorway, cuts through the hills.

The [oak](/source/oak) woodlands along the northwest edge of the Vuache support very high densities of [western Bonelli's warbler](/source/western_Bonelli's_warbler)s, and [Eurasian eagle owl](/source/Eurasian_eagle_owl) nest on the cliffs here.
