# Vrabcha

**Vrabcha** (Bulgarian: Врабча) is a small [divided village](/source/Divided_cities) in [Tran Municipality](/source/Tran_Municipality), [Pernik Province](/source/Pernik_Province). It is located in western [Bulgaria](/source/Bulgaria), 70 km from the capital city of [Sofia](/source/Sofia) and 10 km from the town of Tran. The village was first mentioned in 1453 as *Vrabets* (*Virabeç*); its name is derived from the Bulgarian word for cock [sparrow](/source/Old_World_sparrow), *vrabets* (врабец).[1] Vrabcha is bisected by the Bulgarian-[Serbian](/source/Serbia) border, its Serbian part is called *Vrapča* (Врапча) and lies in [Dimitrovgrad](/source/Dimitrovgrad,_Serbia) municipality, [Pirot District](/source/Pirot_District).

[Vrabcha Cove](/source/Vrabcha_Cove) in [Heywood Island](/source/Heywood_Island_(Antarctica)) off [Robert Island](/source/Robert_Island_(South_Shetland_Islands)) in the [South Shetland Islands](/source/South_Shetland_Islands), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica) is named after Vrabcha.[2]
