'''Volcano Choir''' is an American [indie rock](/source/indie_rock) band from [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin), formed in 2005. It has released two albums, ''[Unmap](/source/Unmap)'' and ''[Repave](/source/Repave).''

==History==
The band began as a collaboration between [Bon Iver](/source/Bon_Iver)'s [Justin Vernon](/source/Justin_Vernon) and members of [Collections of Colonies of Bees](/source/Collections_of_Colonies_of_Bees). Their debut album, ''[Unmap](/source/Unmap)'', was released on September 22, 2009, reaching number 92 on the [Billboard Top 200](/source/Billboard_Top_200) [chart](/source/record_chart).<ref name=":0">{{cite magazine|url={{BillboardURLbyName|artist=volcano choir|chart=all}}|title=Volcano Choir - Chart History|magazine=Billboard.com|access-date=2013-07-11}}</ref> The band toured on the success of this release, with a large string of shows around Japan in November 2010 being their most notable run.<ref>{{cite web |title=Volcano Choir Setlist |url=https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/volcano-choir/2010/shibuya-o-west-tokyo-japan-5bd28bb0.html |website=Setlist.fm |access-date=9 November 2018 |date=8 November 2010}}</ref>

Since the band's formation, Jon Mueller (Death Blues) and Thomas Wincek (of [All Tiny Creatures](/source/All_Tiny_Creatures)) have left Collections of Colonies of Bees, but continue to be members of Volcano Choir.<ref>{{cite web|last=Hyden |first=Steven |url=http://www.avclub.com/milwaukee/articles/jon-mueller-leaves-collections-of-colonies-of-bees,43052/ |title=Jon Mueller leaves Collections Of Colonies Of Bees ... by the end of the year |publisher=[The A.V. It was revealed in a 2014 interview with band members that the name "Volcano Choir" originated from a [vaporizer](/source/vaporizer_(inhalation_device)) called the "Volcano".<ref>{{cite video |url= http://www.bdcwire.com/boston-calling-volcano-choir-interview/boston-calling-volcano-choir-interview-2 |title= Boston Calling: Volcano Choir Interview |publisher= BDCWire |date= 2015-02-26 |access-date=2018-06-30}}</ref>

The cover art for ''Unmap'' was created by Adreienne DeBoer, and insert art was illustrated by [Dave Godowsky](/source/Dave_Godowsky).

Volcano Choir released their second studio album, ''[Repave](/source/Repave)'',<ref name="Wolfe">Jake Wolfe (2013-09-13). Thomas Wincek joined [Field Report](/source/Field_Report) in 2014.

Volcano Choir's song "Byegone" was used in the 4th episode of the first season of ''[The 100](/source/The_100_(TV_series))''.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.tunefind.com/show/the-100/season-1/17928|title=Music from The 100 S1E04|website=Tunefind}}</ref>
