'''Viscount Chaplin''', of Saint Oswald's, [Blankney](/source/Blankney), in the [County of Lincoln](/source/County_of_Lincoln), was a title in the [Peerage of the United Kingdom](/source/Peerage_of_the_United_Kingdom).<ref>{{London Gazette |issue=29629 |date=20 June 1916 |page=6065}}</ref> It was created in 1916 for [Henry Chaplin](/source/Henry_Chaplin%2C_1st_Viscount_Chaplin), who was a [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK)) [MP](/source/Member_of_Parliament), [cabinet](/source/Cabinet_(government)) [minister](/source/political_minister), country landowner and racehorse owner. The title became extinct upon the death of his grandson, the third Viscount, in 1981.

The Chaplin family descended from Sir Francis Chaplin, [Lord Mayor of London](/source/Lord_Mayor_of_London) from 1677 to 1678. Sir Francis was the father of Robert Chaplin, who was created a [baronet](/source/baronet) in 1715 (see [Chaplin baronets](/source/Chaplin_baronets)), and John Chaplin, ancestor of the Viscounts Chaplin.

[Edith Chaplin](/source/Edith_Vane-Tempest-Stewart%2C_Marchioness_of_Londonderry), daughter of the first Viscount, married [Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, 7th Marquess of Londonderry](/source/Charles_Vane-Tempest-Stewart%2C_7th_Marquess_of_Londonderry), and became a well-known socialite and philanthropist. [Edward Chaplin](/source/Edward_Chaplin_(MP)), younger brother of the first Viscount, was also a politician.
