**Virender Sharma** (born 11 September 1971) is an Indian international [umpire](/source/Umpire_(cricket)) and former [cricketer](/source/Cricket).[1] He played in fifty [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) and forty [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) matches for [Himachal Pradesh](/source/Himachal_Pradesh_cricket_team) between 1990 and 2006.[1][2] Sharma stood as an umpire in the [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) tour match between [India A vs South Africa](/source/South_African_cricket_team_in_India_in_2015%E2%80%9316) on 29 September 2015.[3]

In November 2016 during the [Ranji Trophy](/source/Ranji_Trophy) match between [Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Ranji_Trophy_Group_A#Round_6), Sharma was forced to stand at both ends for the entire day 2, after the other umpire [Sam Nogajski](/source/Sam_Nogajski) was taken ill with food poisoning. The reserve umpire at the venue was not a member of the BCCI panel, which meant that he could only stand at square leg.[4]

In March 2017, he stood in the final of the [2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Vijay_Hazare_Trophy).[5] On 10 January 2020, he stood in his first [Twenty20 International](/source/Twenty20_International) (T20I) match, in the fixture between [India and Sri Lanka](/source/Sri_Lankan_cricket_team_in_India_in_2019%E2%80%9320).[6] One week later, on 17 January 2020, he stood in his first [One Day International](/source/One_Day_International) (ODI) match, in the fixture between [India and Australia](/source/Australian_cricket_team_in_India_in_2019%E2%80%9320).[7]

In January 2021, the [International Cricket Council](/source/International_Cricket_Council) (ICC) named him as one of the on-field umpires for the [second Test](/source/English_cricket_team_in_India_in_2020%E2%80%9321#2nd_Test) match between [India and England](/source/English_cricket_team_in_India_in_2020%E2%80%9321).[8] On 13 February 2021, he stood in his first Test as an onfield umpire, between India and England.[9][10]

In January 2023, he was named as one of the on-field umpires for the [2023 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup](/source/2023_Under-19_Women's_T20_World_Cup).[11][12]
