It is located just south of the [Verdalselva](/source/Verdalselva) river, about {{convert|4|km}} southeast of the town of [Verdalsøra](/source/Verdals%C3%B8ra) and about the same distance to the west of the village of [Lysthaugen](/source/Lysthaugen). 

Vinne is also a [Church of Norway](/source/Church_of_Norway) parish covering the southern part of western Verdal Municipality, with [Vinne Church](/source/Vinne_Church) located in this village. 

The [Bergsgrav Station](/source/Bergsgrav_Station) is a train stop in Vinne along the [Nordlandsbanen](/source/Nordlandsbanen) railway line.
