Musical artist

**Vidna Obmana** (stylized **vidnaObmana** on many album covers) is a [pseudonym](/source/Pseudonym) used by [Belgian](/source/Belgium) composer and [ambient musician](/source/Ambient_music) Dirk Serries. The name *Vidna Obmana*, a phrase in [Serbian](/source/Serbian_language), literally translates to "optical illusion" and was chosen by Serries because he felt it accurately described the music.[1] Serries created music under the Vidna Obmana pseudonym from 1984 until 2007, when he officially retired the name.[2] Most of his current work is released under the **Fear Falls Burning** pseudonym.[3]

Vidna Obmana's music has often been described as anamorphic and organic. He uses the techniques of looping and shaping harmonies, minimizing the configurations to a few notes.[4]

Vidna Obmana has collaborated on several occasions with artists such as [Asmus Tietchens](/source/Asmus_Tietchens), [Brannan Lane](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Brannan_Lane&action=edit&redlink=1), [Capriolo Trifoglio](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Capriolo_Trifoglio&action=edit&redlink=1), [Diego Borotti](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Diego_Borotti&action=edit&redlink=1), and [Steve Roach](/source/Steve_Roach_(musician)). Some of these collaborations have become entire projects of their own, such as [Continuum](/source/Continuum_(music_project)) (collaboration with [Bass Communion](/source/Bass_Communion)) and Principle of Silence (collaboration with [Joris De Backer](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Joris_De_Backer&action=edit&redlink=1)).

Vidna Obmana is often cited as one of the more notable dark ambient musicians.[5][6]
