**Videle** (Romanian pronunciation: [\[ˈvidele\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Romanian)) is a town in [Teleorman County](/source/Teleorman_County), [Muntenia](/source/Muntenia), [Romania](/source/Romania), with a population of 10,107 in 2021. It was upgraded to town status in 1968 by incorporation of a few villages nearby. Today, Coșoaia is the single associated village the town administers.

## Geography

The town is situated on the [Wallachian Plain](/source/Wallachian_Plain), on the banks of the river [Glavacioc](/source/Glavacioc) and its left tributary, the [Milcovăț](/source/Milcov%C4%83%C8%9B). It lies in the northeastern part of Teleorman County, on the border with [Giurgiu County](/source/Giurgiu_County).

## Transportation

Videle is located 49 km (30 mi) northeast of the county seat, [Alexandria](/source/Alexandria%2C_Romania) and 66 km (41 mi) west of [Bucharest](/source/Bucharest). It is crossed by [county roads](/source/Roads_in_Romania) DJ503 and DJ601.

The town is of some importance as a railway junction, for the railway track heading south to [Giurgiu](/source/Giurgiu) and [Bulgaria](/source/Bulgaria) leaves the [main Wallachian East-West-railway](/source/C%C4%83ile_Ferate_Rom%C3%A2ne_Line_900) from Bucharest to [Craiova](/source/Craiova).

## Economy

The [Videle oil field](/source/Videle_oil_field) is located on the administrative territory of the town.

## Demographics

At the [2021 census](/source/2021_Romanian_census), the town had a population of 10,107; of those, 85.76% were [Romanians](/source/Romanians) and 3.81% [Roma](/source/Romani_people_in_Romania).[3]
