Canonical URL: https://mediated.wiki/source/Veronica_Pyke > Markdown URL: https://mediated.wiki/source/Veronica_Pyke.md > Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronica_Pyke > Source revision: 1326003383 > License: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) **Veronica Pyke** (born 11 April 1981) is an Australian former [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who played for [Tasmanian Roar](/source/Tasmanian_Roar) and [Hobart Hurricanes](/source/Hobart_Hurricanes_(WBBL)).[1] ## Early life From [Orford](/source/Orford,_Tasmania) on the east coast of Tasmania, Pyke first played senior cricket with the men's team in her home town.[2] ## Tasmanian Roar Pyke has captained Tasmanian Roar since that team joined the domestic competition.[3] Originally she was known as a left-arm bowler, but over time she has developed into an all-rounder.[4] During the 2012–13 [WNCL](/source/Women's_National_Cricket_League) competition, she scored a total of 151 runs, more than any other Roar player.[5] At [Cricket Tasmania](/source/Cricket_Tasmania)'s awards night in 2013–14, Pyke won the Tasmanian Roar Player of the Year award, after also being named the team's [WNCL](/source/Women's_National_Cricket_League) Player of the Year and WT20 Player of the Year.[6] In round 1 of the 2015–16 WNCL competition, Pyke scored 24 runs against the [ACT Meteors](/source/ACT_Meteors) and took 3/21 against the [Victorian Spirit](/source/Victorian_Spirit). However, the Roar lost all three of its matches in that round, including its match against the [Queensland Fire](/source/Queensland_Fire).[7] In the next round, a match against the [New South Wales Breakers](/source/New_South_Wales_Breakers) in Launceston, Pyke scored 41 from 33 balls, but again the Roar fell short of victory.[8] In the final round, in Adelaide, Pyke took two wickets in the Roar's losing effort against the [Western Fury](/source/Western_Fury). She then made 28 runs against the [South Australian Scorpions](/source/South_Australian_Scorpions), but after her dismissal the Roar suffered yet another loss.[9] ## Hobart Hurricanes Pyke was part of the Hurricanes squad for the [Women's Big Bash League inaugural season](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_Women's_Big_Bash_League_season) in 2015–16.[10] She finished second on that season's table of the leading WBBL wicket takers, with 22 wickets at an average of 13.09,[11] and a best performance of 3 for 19 against the [Melbourne Renegades](/source/Melbourne_Renegades_(WBBL)).[12] At the end of the season, the [Australian Cricketers' Association](/source/Australian_Cricketers'_Association) selected her in its WBBL All*Star Team of the Year.[13] She was also a member of the Hurricanes squad for the [2016–17 WBBL season](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Women's_Big_Bash_League_season).[14] In November 2018, she was named in the [Hobart Hurricanes](/source/Hobart_Hurricanes_(WBBL))' squad for the [2018–19 Women's Big Bash League season](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_Women's_Big_Bash_League_season).[15][16] ## Personal life Off the field, Pyke is a Parks and Reserves officer with the [Glamorgan Spring Bay Council](/source/Glamorgan_Spring_Bay_Council).[2] ## References 1.
