In [Celtic languages](/source/Celtic_languages) such as [Welsh](/source/Welsh_language), a '''verb-noun''' (or verbnoun) is used to refer to the basic [form](/source/Grammatical_conjugation) of a [verb](/source/verb) and is the form usually listed in a [dictionary](/source/dictionary) (for example, in the 'Modern Welsh Dictionary'[{{cite book|title=The Pocket Modern Welsh Dictionary|publisher=Oxford University Press|editor=Gareth King|page=xxviii|year=2000|ISBN=0-19-864531-7}}]).
In Welsh for example, it is frequently used in conjunction with an [auxiliary verb](/source/auxiliary_verb) to form a [periphrastic](/source/Periphrasis) verb. It is similar in meaning to an English '-ing [participle](/source/participle)' or [gerund](/source/gerund), although it is often translated as a 'to-[infinitive](/source/infinitive)'.

The verbnoun is formed by the addition of the suffix "-agh" to this stem, giving "etlagh".
