== Biography ==

Pilon was born in [Ajdovščina](/source/Ajdov%C5%A1%C4%8Dina), then part of the [Austro-Hungarian](/source/Austro-Hungarian) province of [Gorizia and Gradisca](/source/Gorizia_and_Gradisca) (now in [Slovenia](/source/Slovenia)). After he had finished the [Gorizia Grammar School](/source/Gorizia_Grammar_School), he was drafted by the [Austro-Hungarian Army](/source/Austro-Hungarian_Army) during [World War I](/source/World_War_I). He fought on the [Eastern front](/source/Eastern_front_(World_War_I)) and was captured by the [Russian](/source/Russian_Empire) army. He later described his experience as a [prisoner of war](/source/prisoner_of_war) in the autobiography ''Na robu'' ("On the Edge"). He returned to [Ajdovščina](/source/Ajdov%C5%A1%C4%8Dina) in 1919, where he took up painting and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.<ref name=":0" />

After a donation by his son, Dominique, his work is on permanent display at the Pilon Gallery in Ajdovščina.<ref name=":0" />
