**Vavan** ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): واوان)[a] is a village in [Melkari-ye Sharqi Rural District](/source/Melkari-ye_Sharqi_Rural_District) of [Zab District](/source/Zab_District) in [Mirabad County](/source/Mirabad_County), [West Azerbaijan](/source/West_Azerbaijan_province) province, [Iran](/source/Iran), serving as capital of the district.[4]

## Demographics

### Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the village's population was 842 in 146 households, when it was in [Melkari Rural District](/source/Melkari-ye_Gharbi_Rural_District)[b] of [Vazineh District](/source/Central_District_(Mirabad_County))[c] in [Sardasht County](/source/Sardasht_County).[5] The following census in 2011 counted 843 people in 181 households.[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the village as 792 people in 195 households.[2]

In 2022, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of [Mirabad County](/source/Mirabad_County) and renamed the [Central District](/source/Central_District_(Mirabad_County)). The rural district was transferred to the new [Zab District](/source/Zab_District) and renamed [Melkari-ye Gharbi Rural District](/source/Melkari-ye_Gharbi_Rural_District). Vavan was transferred to [Melkari-ye Sharqi Rural District](/source/Melkari-ye_Sharqi_Rural_District) created in the same district.[4]
