# Valun

**Valun** ([Italian](/source/Italian_language): *Vallòn di Cherso*) is a [village](/source/Village) located on the [Croatian](/source/Croatia) island of [Cres](/source/Cres), in [Primorje-Gorski Kotar](/source/Primorje-Gorski_Kotar). Administratively, it is part of the town of [Cres](/source/Cres_(town)). As of 2021, it had a population of 64.[1]

Valun is a fisherman’s village located to the southwest of the town of Cres. The village of Valun was originally founded as the port of the now abandoned village of Bućov.

The village is famous for being the location where one of the oldest Croatian [Glagolitic](/source/Glagolitic) inscriptions, the [Valun tablet](/source/Valun_tablet), was found.

## Architecture

A church dedicated to [Saint Nicholas](/source/Saint_Nicholas) ([44.9073°N 14.3594°E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=44.9073_14.3594)) is on the [cape](/source/Cape_(geography)) in Valun.

The church *Sv. Marije kod Krunice* ([44.9047°N 14.3609°E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=44.9047_14.3609)), dedicated to [Saint Mary](/source/Mary,_mother_of_Jesus), is in the [bight](/source/Bight_(geography)) of Valun.

A chapel dedicated to the [Sacred Heart](/source/Sacred_Heart) ([44.9002°N 14.36276°E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=44.9002_14.36276)) is on the road from Valun to the plateau.

A Church dedicated to [Saint Mark](/source/Saint_Mark) ([44.89731°N 14.36349°E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=44.89731_14.36349)) is on the plateau above Valun.
