{{Short description|Scientific educational software}}
'''VISQ''' (Portuguese acronym for "Variables that Interact Semi-Quantitatively") is a scientific-educational [software](/source/software) developed using [Carnegie-Mellon](/source/Carnegie-Mellon)'s [cT](/source/Vpython), in the year of 1993 by M. Thielo (as a [physics](/source/physics) undergrad at the time), based on Jon Ogborn ideas for semi-quantitative modeling of [dynamical systems](/source/dynamical_systems), for both [MS-DOS](/source/MS-DOS) and [Macintosh](/source/Macintosh) systems (in 2012 the author published a new, Windows compatible version). Awarded by the [Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul](/source/Universidade_Federal_do_Rio_Grande_do_Sul) (UFRGS) in 1994, the system is based on the theory of continuous [neural networks](/source/neural_networks), and have been used in many research projects since then, mainly in Master and Doctoral Dissertations in the area of [environmental education](/source/environmental_education).<ref>[http://repositorio.furg.br/discover?scope=%2F&query=VISQ&submit=Go Several works, ranging from scientific papers to Master Dissertations on using VISQ for modelling dynamical systems, including environmental problems (in Portuguese)]</ref> An introduction to VISQ (in Portuguese) can be found at the university site,<ref>{{Cite web |url=http://www.modelciencias.furg.br/bin/ferramentas/semi/visq.php |title=VISQ: and introduction to semiquantitative modelling tools (in Portuguese) |access-date=2009-05-14 |archive-date=2009-09-26 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090926113331/http://www.modelciencias.furg.br/bin/ferramentas/semi/visq.php |url-status=dead }}</ref> and the [software](/source/software) can be freely downloaded from the author's site<ref>[http://www.if.ufrgs.br/~thielo/visqw12.zip Downloading VISQ for Windows]</ref>
