**VIS1** (viral integration site 1), also known as HIS-1, is a [long non-coding RNA](/source/Long_non-coding_RNA). It was originally identified in mice in a screen for genes involved in the development of [myeloid leukemia](/source/Myeloid_leukemia). In [murine](/source/Murine) myeloid leukemias, this gene is a common site of viral insertion by the murine [ecotropic](/source/Ecotropic) [retrovirus](/source/Retrovirus) CasBrM[2][3] It is conserved amongst [vertebrates](/source/Vertebrates), including human, mice, cats, pigs, cattle and dogs.[4] Expression of VIS1 is restricted to [epithelial](/source/Epithelial) cells, [leukemias](/source/Leukemias) and [carcinomas](/source/Carcinomas).[5]
