'''State Route 102''' ('''SR-102''') is a [state highway](/source/state_highway) in the [U.S.](/source/United_States) state of [Utah](/source/Utah) that connects [Tremonton](/source/Tremonton%2C_Utah) with [I-84](/source/I-84_(UT)), [SR-83](/source/SR-83_(UT)), and the towns of [Deweyville](/source/Deweyville%2C_Utah), [Bothwell](/source/Bothwell%2C_Utah), [Thatcher](/source/Thatcher%2C_Utah), [Penrose](/source/Penrose%2C_Utah), and [Thiokol](/source/Thiokol)'s facility in [Box Elder County](/source/Box_Elder_County%2C_Utah).

==Route description==

The route starts on [SR-83](/source/SR-83_(UT)) east of [Lampo Junction](/source/Lampo_Junction%2C_Utah) travelling northeast. After about {{convert|2|mi|km}}, the route starts to "stairstep", alternately going north and east through [Penrose](/source/Penrose%2C_Utah) and [Thatcher](/source/Thatcher%2C_Utah), before settling on an easterly direction through [Bothwell](/source/Bothwell%2C_Utah). Soon after, the route intersects [I-84](/source/I-84_(UT)) at [Bothwell Junction](/source/Bothwell_Junction%2C_Utah), passes under [I-15](/source/I-15_(UT)), passes through [Tremonton](/source/Tremonton%2C_Utah) and [Haws Corner Junction](/source/Haws_Corner_Junction%2C_Utah) and ending at [SR-38](/source/SR-38_(UT)) in [Deweyville](/source/Deweyville%2C_Utah) at the base of the [Wellsville Mountains](/source/Wellsville_Mountains).<ref name="reference"/><ref name="Google Maps">{{Google maps|url=https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=41.6665,-112.214699&spn=0.123362,0.270882&z=12|access-date=2009-10-05}}</ref>

==History==
{{see also|Utah State Route 30#History}}
SR-102 was originally designated in 1931 as the road from [Deweyville](/source/Deweyville%2C_Utah) to [Haws Corner](/source/Haws_Corner%2C_Utah). In 1969, the route was extended westward through [Tremonton](/source/Tremonton%2C_Utah) to [SR-83](/source/SR-83_(UT)) east of [Lampo Junction](/source/Lampo_Junction%2C_Utah) (this stretch of road was formerly part of [SR-3](/source/Utah_State_Route_3_(1962-1977))).<ref name="resolution"/>

thumb|Signage used from 1966 to 1977 on SR-30
In 1966, the counties in northern Utah requested that the [State Road Commission](/source/State_Road_Commission_(Utah)) designate a single route number to run east–west across that part of the state. This route overlapped SR-102 between Deweyville and [I-84](/source/I-84_(UT)). For this new route, the number [SR-30](/source/SR-30_(UT)) was selected, but there were no legislative description changes of the highways. Instead, the old route numbers were kept and marked on small, rectangular signs below the SR-30 shields.<ref name="resolution"/><ref name="resolution 30">{{cite web|title=State Route 30 Resolutions|publisher=[Utah Department of Transportation](/source/Utah_Department_of_Transportation)|url=http://www.udot.utah.gov/main/uconowner.gf?n=200609131100101|access-date=2009-10-05|date=November 2008}}</ref>

In the [1977 renumbering](/source/1977_renumbering_(Utah)), the legislative description of this new route was changed to SR-30, resulting in SR-102's eastern terminus being moved to I-84. In 1989, the commission resolved that, once [I-15](/source/I-15_(UT)) was completed north of Tremonton, SR-30 would be rerouted to replace [SR-129](/source/Utah_State_Route_129_(1982-1989)), with SR-102 being extended back to Deweyville.<ref name="resolution"/>
