# Usman Sarwar

**Usman Sarwar** (Urdu: عثمان سرور, born 12 December 1983) is a former [Pakistani](/source/Pakistani_people) [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Sarwar was a right-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowled right-arm [medium-fast](/source/Seam_bowling). He was born at [Lahore](/source/Lahore), [Punjab](/source/Punjab,_Pakistan), [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan).

## Only List A match

Sarwar played a single [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) match for [Lahore Eagles](/source/Lahore_Eagles) against the [National Bank of Pakistan](/source/National_Bank_of_Pakistan_cricket_team) in the 2008/09 Royal Bank of Scotland Cup.[1] The match was a disaster for both the Eagles and Sarwar. Bowled out for just 122 in 40.3 overs, Sarwar remained [not out](/source/Not_out) on 0 at the end of the Eagles innings.[2] In reply, National Bank of Pakistan scored the 123 runs required to win in just 6.1 overs, with an innings [run-rate](/source/Run_rate) of 19.94 runs per over. Sarwar himself was singled out for harsh treatment by the batsman: His 3 [overs](/source/Over_(cricket)) conceded 78 runs, an [economy rate](/source/Economy_rate#Bowling_statistics) of 26.[3] His 3 overs individually conceded 23, 27 and 28 runs. By the end of their reply [Salman Butt](/source/Salman_Butt) was unbeaten on 92 from just 25 balls.

## Later claims

Prior to the match, Eagles captain [Zulqarnain Haider](/source/Zulqarnain_Haider_(cricketer)) was removed from the captaincy amid allegations that he was under pressure to select certain players for the game; he never played for Lahore again.[citation needed] The captaincy then passed to [Ahmed Dar](/source/Ahmed_Dar), with Sarwar proceeding to be selected. The National Bank of Pakistan needed to win the match convincingly to improve their [net run-rate](/source/Net_run_rate) and qualify for the semi-final of the tournament. The outcome of this match was later investigated, but the [Pakistan Cricket Board](/source/Pakistan_Cricket_Board) said nothing untoward had been discovered about the match.

In November 2010, Haider fled to London from the [Pakistan vs South Africa](/source/Pakistani_cricket_team_vs_South_Africa_in_UAE_2010%E2%80%9311) series in [Dubai](/source/Dubai), citing threats from bookmakers after he refused to help fix a [One Day International](/source/One_Day_International) in the series. Speaking to [Geo TV](/source/Jang_Media_Group) Haider said: "Yes I have got threats that I should play so and so player, or not play that player".[4] These remarks have put the spotlight on the only List A match Sarwar played and on Sarwar himself, even more so considering the match involved Salman Butt and [Mohammad Amir](/source/Mohammad_Amir), who are both suspended by the [International Cricket Council](/source/International_Cricket_Council) on suspicion of [spot fixing](/source/Spot_fixing) during [Pakistan's 2010 tour of England](/source/Pakistan_cricket_team_in_England_in_2010). [Wicketkeeper](/source/Wicketkeeper) [Kamran Akmal](/source/Kamran_Akmal) is also under investigation for irregularities in a [Test match between Australia and Pakistan in 2010](/source/Pakistani_cricket_team_in_Australia_in_2009%E2%80%9310#2nd_Test), as well as [Wahab Riaz](/source/Wahab_Riaz), who has himself been questioned by [New Scotland Yard](/source/New_Scotland_Yard) about spot-fixing.
