'''UrQMD''' ('''U'''ltra '''r'''elativistic '''Q'''uantum '''M'''olecular '''D'''ynamics) is a fully integrated [Monte Carlo](/source/Monte_Carlo_method) simulation package for Proton+Proton, Proton+nucleus and nucleus+nucleus interactions. UrQMD has many applications in [particle physics](/source/particle_physics), [high energy](/source/High_energy_physics) [experimental physics](/source/experimental_physics) and [engineering](/source/engineering), [shielding](/source/Radiation_protection), [detector](/source/detector) design, [cosmic ray](/source/cosmic_ray) studies, and [medical physics](/source/medical_physics).

Since version 3.3, an option has been incorporated to substitute part of the collision with a hydrodynamic model.

UrQMD is available in as [open-source](/source/open-source_software) [Fortran](/source/Fortran) code.{{citation needed|date=October 2008}}

UrQMD is developed using the [FORTRAN](/source/FORTRAN) language. Under [Linux](/source/Linux) the [gfortran](/source/GNU_Compiler_Collection) compiler is necessary to build and run the program.

The UrQMD model is part of the [GEANT4](/source/GEANT_(program)) simulation package and can be used as a low-energy hadronic interaction model within the air shower simulation code [CORSIKA](/source/CORSIKA).
