'''Uphusen''' is a [village](/source/village) in [Lower Saxony](/source/Lower_Saxony), [Germany](/source/Germany). The [East Frisia](/source/East_Frisia)n village is currently a [borough](/source/quarter_(urban_subdivision)) ({{lang|de|Stadtteil}}) of the city of [Emden](/source/Emden) together with [Marienwehr](/source/Marienwehr).

Uphusen was originally a village built on a ''[warft](/source/terp)''. The current warft, with the church on it, was created from three smaller mounds.<ref>{{Cite book |chapter=Archäologische Quellen zur Besiedlung Ostfrieslands im frühen und hohen Mittelalter |title=Ostfriesland. This replaced an earlier church from the thirteenth century that was said to have been demolished and rebuilt in [Veenhusen](/source/Veenhusen).

The name of the place is a combination of ''up'' ('higher') and ''husen'' ('houses'), therefore meaning “higher located houses”.<ref>{{Cite book |title=Von Aaltukerei bis Zwischenmooren – Die Siedlungsnamen zwischen Dollart und Jade |last=Remmers |first=Arend |year=2004 |publisher=Verlag Schuster |location=Leer |isbn=3796303595 |page=224 |language=de}}</ref>
