# Unterkatz

**Unterkatz** (ˈʊntɐkats, lit. 'Lower Katz', in contrast to "[Upper Katz](/source/Oberkatz)") is a village and a former municipality in the district [Schmalkalden-Meiningen](/source/Schmalkalden-Meiningen), in [Thuringia](/source/Thuringia), [Germany](/source/Germany). Since 1 January 2019, it is part of the town [Wasungen](/source/Wasungen).[1]
