The **Unity Party** ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Միասնություն կուսակցություն), also known as the **Consolidation Party**, is an [Armenian](/source/Armenia) [political party](/source/Political_party).

## History

The party was founded in April 2016 and [Vartan Oskanian](/source/Vartan_Oskanian), who served as the former [Minister of Foreign Affairs](/source/List_of_Ministers_of_Foreign_Affairs_of_Armenia) of Armenia, was nominated to represent the party as leader.[3][4] The party participated in the [2017 Armenian parliamentary election](/source/2017_Armenian_parliamentary_election) as part of a [political alliance](/source/Political_alliance) with the [Heritage Party](/source/Heritage_(Armenia)).[5] The alliance, known as the 'Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanyan' or '[ORO Alliance](/source/ORO_Alliance)', won just 2.07% of the vote and failed to gain any seats within the [National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_(Armenia)).[6][7][8]

The party did not participate in the [2018](/source/2018_Armenian_parliamentary_election), nor [2021 Armenian parliamentary elections](/source/2021_Armenian_parliamentary_election). Currently, the party acts as an [extra-parliamentary](/source/Extra-parliamentary_opposition) force.

## Ideology

The party believes in establishing a strong [liberal market economy](/source/Economic_liberalism) and [democratic](/source/Democracy) society, modeled after the success of the [Baltic States](/source/Baltic_States) development following the collapse of the [Soviet Union](/source/Soviet_Union).[9] The party supports the [European integration](/source/European_integration) of Armenia. Party leader Vartan Oskanian stated, "The Armenian people, being in the realm of [Christian](/source/Christianity) and Western values, as a member of the [pan-European](/source/Pan-European_identity) family, can take its place and role in the civilized world."[9]

The party also supports the independence and right to self-determination of the [Republic of Artsakh](/source/Republic_of_Artsakh),[10][11] as well as, developing closer and balanced political and economic relations with [Russia](/source/Russia), the [United States](/source/United_States), [Iran](/source/Iran), [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(country)), and with the [European Union](/source/European_Union). Oskanian stated that the party would be ready to cooperate with various political forces, strengthen relations with the outside world and with the [Armenian Diaspora](/source/Armenian_Diaspora), and also tackle poverty and increase the population of Armenia, while pursuing peace in the South [Caucasus](/source/Caucasus) region.[9][12][13]
