# Unexpected Records

**Unexpected Records** is a Dutch record label founded by composer/producer [Perquisite](/source/Perquisite_(musician)), who was part of the hip hop duo [Pete Philly & Perquisite](/source/Pete_Philly_%26_Perquisite).[1][2]

## History

The label was founded in 2001, in [Amsterdam](/source/Amsterdam), with the main goal of focusing on [Hip hop](/source/Hip_hop), [Nu jazz](/source/Nu_jazz) and [Groove](/source/Groove_(music)) based music. Their best selling albums so far have been [*Mindstate*](/source/Mindstate_(Pete_Philly_and_Perquisite_album)) and *[Mystery Repeats](/source/Mystery_Repeats)* by [Pete Philly & Perquisite](/source/Pete_Philly_%26_Perquisite), *Lovestruck Puzzles* by Kris Berry & Perquisite, and *High On You* by [Jeangu Macrooy](/source/Jeangu_Macrooy). Unexpected Records has collaborated with various labels and distributors worldwide, including [PIAS](/source/PIAS_Entertainment_Group) and [Epitaph Records](/source/Epitaph_Records) in Europe, [P-Vine Records](/source/P-Vine_Records) in Japan, [ANTI-](/source/ANTI-) in the US and Music Aroma in Korea.
