The '''Ulya''' ({{langx|ru|Улья}}) is a river in [Ayano-Maysky](/source/Ayano-Maysky_District) and [Okhotsky](/source/Okhotsky_District) districts, [Khabarovsk Krai](/source/Khabarovsk_Krai) in [Russia](/source/Russia). The length of the river is {{convert|325|km|mi}}, the area of its [drainage basin](/source/drainage_basin) is {{convert|15500|km2|mi2}}.<ref name=gvr>{{GVR|285823|Река Улья}}</ref>

The first Russian to reach the Pacific Ocean was [Ivan Moskvitin](/source/Ivan_Moskvitin) who sailed down the Ulya and wintered near its mouth in 1639. [Vasili Poyarkov](/source/Vasili_Poyarkov) reused his huts in 1646. The Ulya was one of the water routes to and from Okhotsk. From its tributaries either the Lama Portage or the Alachak Portage led to the [Mati](/source/Mati_(Maya)) which flows north to the [Maya](/source/Maya_(Aldan)), which leads to the [Aldan](/source/Aldan_(river)) and then the [Lena](/source/Lena_(river)) to [Yakutsk](/source/Yakutsk).

==Course==
The Ulya originates in the [Dzhugdzhur Mountains](/source/Dzhugdzhur_Mountains), flows northeast parallel to the coast and turns east to reach the [Sea of Okhotsk](/source/Sea_of_Okhotsk) about {{convert|100|km|mi}} southwest of [Okhotsk](/source/Okhotsk). It freezes up in late October through early November and remains icebound until May.<ref name=gvr/>
