**USS *Experiment*** was a [schooner](/source/Schooner) of the [United States Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) launched in 1832. She was laid in 1831 in the [Washington Navy Yard](/source/Washington_Navy_Yard), and was launched in April 1832. Commissioned into the US Navy, Lieutenant [William Mervine](/source/William_Mervine) was placed in command of *Experiment*.

From mid-1832 until mid-1833, *Experiment* cruised the [Atlantic](/source/Atlantic_Ocean) coast between [Boston](/source/Boston), [Massachusetts](/source/Massachusetts), and [Charleston, South Carolina](/source/Charleston%2C_South_Carolina). After undergoing repairs at [Norfolk, Virginia](/source/Norfolk%2C_Virginia), she sailed for the [West Indies](/source/West_Indies), returning to [New York City](/source/New_York_City) in June 1835. During the remaining three years of her service, *Experiment* was often used for surveying. From 1839 to 1848, when she was sold, she as a [receiving ship](/source/Receiving_ship) at [Philadelphia](/source/Philadelphia), [Pennsylvania](/source/Pennsylvania).
