**UGC 9796** is a [lenticular](/source/Lenticular_galaxy) and [polar-ring galaxy](/source/Polar-ring_galaxy) in the [constellation](/source/Constellation) [Boötes](/source/Bo%C3%B6tes), and about 250 million [light years](/source/Light_years) distant from [Earth](/source/Earth). It is an [object](/source/Astronomical_object) of great scientific interest as there have been very few [polar ring galaxies](/source/Polar_ring_galaxies) discovered. UGC 9796 is a very gas-rich environment hosting as much 5×109 solar masses of neutral hydrogen.[4] [DSS](/source/Digitized_Sky_Survey) and [SDSS](/source/Sloan_Digital_Sky_Survey) images show that it is very similar to polar ring galaxy [NGC 660](/source/NGC_660), the best-known of all the polar ring galaxies.

This object is also known as *PGC 54461*, *MCG+07-31-48*, and *PRC A-06*
