**Unión Deportiva Ibiza** is a [Spanish professional football club](/source/List_of_football_clubs_in_Spain) based in the town of [Ibiza](/source/Ibiza_(town)), in the [autonomous community](/source/Autonomous_communities_of_Spain) of the [Balearic Islands](/source/Balearic_Islands). Founded in 2015, it plays in [Primera Federación](/source/Primera_Federaci%C3%B3n) – Group 2, holding home matches at *[Estadi Municipal de Can Misses](/source/Estadi_Municipal_de_Can_Misses)*, with a capacity of 6,000.[1]

## History

UD Ibiza was founded in 2015 by former [Valencia CF](/source/Valencia_CF) president [Amadeo Salvo](/source/Amadeo_Salvo), as a revival of [UD Ibiza-Eivissa](/source/UD_Ibiza-Eivissa) which had folded five years earlier. The new organisation was allowed to use the old one's identity, by settling its €50,000 debt with the [Royal Spanish Football Federation](/source/Royal_Spanish_Football_Federation) and the regional federation in the [Balearic Islands](/source/Balearic_Islands).[2] In June 2017, the club was promoted to [Tercera División](/source/Tercera_Divisi%C3%B3n) after spending two seasons in the Regional league.[3]

On 7 August 2018, after the RFEF blocked [Lorca FC](/source/Lorca_FC)'s participation in [Segunda División B](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n_B), Ibiza paid the club's debts and achieved an administrative promotion to the third level.[4]

In [2019–20](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Copa_del_Rey), the club competed in the [Copa del Rey](/source/Copa_del_Rey) for the first time. They defeated [Pontevedra](/source/Pontevedra_CF) and [Albacete Balompié](/source/Albacete_Balompi%C3%A9) before a 1–2 home loss to [FC Barcelona](/source/FC_Barcelona) in the round of 32, having led the league title holders with 20 minutes to play.[5] In [the following edition](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Copa_del_Rey), UD Ibiza beat a top-flight team for the first time, winning 5–2 against [Celta Vigo](/source/RC_Celta_de_Vigo) in the second round of the competition;[6] later they lost 2–1 to [Athletic Bilbao](/source/Athletic_Bilbao) after extra time.[7]

On 23 May 2021, Ibiza was promoted for the first time ever to [Segunda División](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n) by defeating [UCAM Murcia](/source/UCAM_Murcia_CF) in the final of the promotion play-off, via an [Ekain Zenitagoia](/source/Ekain_Zenitagoia) goal from the penalty spot.[8] To compete in the [Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional](/source/Liga_Nacional_de_F%C3%BAtbol_Profesional), the club became a *[Sociedad Anónima Deportiva](/source/Sociedad_An%C3%B3nima_Deportiva)* with a starting capital of €700,000.[9] Manager [Juan Carlos Carcedo](/source/Juan_Carlos_Carcedo), who led the team to promotion, was dismissed on 18 December following six games without a win;[10] his replacement [Paco Jémez](/source/Paco_J%C3%A9mez) saved the team from relegation with a 15th-place finish, which was not enough for Salvo to give him a new contract.[11]

On 28 April 2023, Ibiza were relegated to [Primera Federación](/source/Primera_Federaci%C3%B3n) after being defeated 1–0 at [Racing Santander](/source/Racing_de_Santander), ending their two-season spell in the second division.[12]
