The '''UCLA Phonological Segment Inventory Database''' (or '''UPSID''') is a statistical survey of the [phoneme](/source/phoneme) inventories in 451 of the world's [language](/source/language)s. The database was created by American [phonetician](/source/phonetics) [Ian Maddieson](/source/Ian_Maddieson) for the [University of California, Los Angeles](/source/University_of_California%2C_Los_Angeles) (UCLA) in 1981 to 1984 and has been updated several times.
