The team played in the [East Texas League](/source/East_Texas_League) (1924–1926, 1931, 1936–1940, 1946, 1949–1950), [Lone Star League](/source/Lone_Star_League) (1927–1929, 1947–1948) and [West Dixie League](/source/West_Dixie_League) (1935).<ref>[https://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/team.cgi?city=Tyler&state=TX&country=US&empty=0 BR Minors page]</ref> The team was affiliated with the [New York Giants](/source/History_of_the_New_York_Giants_(NL)) in 1935 and 1936, the [Cleveland Indians](/source/Cleveland_Indians) in 1939, the [St. Louis Browns](/source/History_of_the_St._Louis_Browns) (1940) and [Cincinnati Reds](/source/Cincinnati_Reds) (1947–1949).

The squad won league championships in 1924, under manager [Pop Kitchens](/source/Pop_Kitchens), in 1938, under managers [Doug Taitt](/source/Doug_Taitt), [Fred Browning](/source/Fred_Browning) and [Red Rollings](/source/Red_Rollings) and in 1940, under managers [Bobby Goff](/source/Bobby_Goff) and [Sam Hancock](/source/Sam_Hancock_(baseball)).

Multiple [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball) players spent time with the team, most notably later Major Leaguer [Phil Weintraub](/source/Phil_Weintraub) and All-Stars [Roy McMillan](/source/Roy_McMillan) and [Harry Walker](/source/Harry_Walker).
