# Tyler MacDuff

**Tyler Glenn Duff Jr.** (September 12, 1925 – December 23, 2007) was an American film and television actor.[1]

## Life and career

MacDuff was born in [Hollywood, California](/source/Hollywood,_California).[1] He attended Woodrow Wilson Junior High.[2] MacDuff joined the [U.S. Navy](/source/United_States_Navy) in 1943 and drove an [LCVP Landing Craft](/source/LCVP_(United_States)) in the first wave of the [invasion of Saipan](/source/Battle_of_Saipan) and [Guam](/source/Battle_of_Guam_(1944)) in 1944. In late 1944 and 1945, he was part of General [Douglas MacArthur](/source/Douglas_MacArthur)'s invasion forces in the Philippine Islands.

MacDuff then attended [Pasadena City College](/source/Pasadena_City_College), and performed at the [Pasadena Playhouse](/source/Pasadena_Playhouse).[2] He also served as a [director](/source/Theatre_director) for stage productions.[3][4] MacDuff began his film and television career in 1952, first appearing in the film *[No Room for the Groom](/source/No_Room_for_the_Groom)*, where he played the uncredited role of a [soldier](/source/Soldier). He then appeared in the films *[Francis Goes to West Point](/source/Francis_Goes_to_West_Point)* and *[Bonzo Goes to College](/source/Bonzo_Goes_to_College)*.[1] MacDuff earned popularity from his role in the 1954 film *[The Boy from Oklahoma](/source/The_Boy_from_Oklahoma)*, in which he played [Billy the Kid](/source/Billy_the_Kid).[2][5] He also played Vance in the film *[The Bounty Hunter](/source/The_Bounty_Hunter_(1954_film))*.[6] MacDuff guest-starred in television programs including *[Gunsmoke](/source/Gunsmoke#Television_series_(1955–1975)_and_TV_movies)*, *[The Lone Ranger](/source/The_Lone_Ranger)*, *[Laramie](/source/Laramie_(TV_series))*, *[Adventures of Superman](/source/Adventures_of_Superman_(TV_series))*, *[Maverick](/source/Maverick_(TV_series))*, *[The Texan](/source/The_Texan_(TV_series))*, *[Tales of Wells Fargo](/source/Tales_of_Wells_Fargo)*, *[Lawman](/source/Lawman_(TV_series))*, *[Perry Mason](/source/Perry_Mason_(1957_TV_series))* and *[Death Valley Days](/source/Death_Valley_Days)*.[2][6] He played Wes Parker in the 1956 film *[The Burning Hills](/source/The_Burning_Hills)*.[6] MacDuff also played Tom Williams in the 1957 film *[Fury at Showdown](/source/Fury_at_Showdown)*.[6] He retired in 2003, last appearing in the 2003 film *An American Reunion*.[1]

## Death

MacDuff died in December 2007 of [heart failure](/source/Heart_failure) in [Pasadena, California](/source/Pasadena,_California), at the age of 82.[1] He was buried in [Riverside National Cemetery](/source/Riverside_National_Cemetery).[7]
