"**Two Occasions**" is an [R&B](/source/Contemporary_R%26B) song written by [Babyface](/source/Kenneth_%22Babyface%22_Edmonds), [Darnell Bristol](/source/Darnell_Bristol) and [Sid Johnson](/source/Sidney_DeWayne) (who was the former manager for Babyface's early group, Manchild).[1] It was produced by Babyface and [L.A. Reid](/source/L.A._Reid) for [the Deele](/source/The_Deele)'s third studio album *[Eyes of a Stranger](/source/Eyes_of_a_Stranger_(album))* (1987). The [ballad](/source/Ballad_(music)) was released as the album's second [single](/source/Single_(music)) in December 1987.[2] It is the only song on the album that features Babyface on lead vocals,[3] which alternate between him, Bristol and Carlos "Satin" Greene throughout the course of the song. It has since been remade into a live version with added vocals from Babyface with all original vocals from the Deele intact; this version appeared on the 12-inch maxi single and also three years later on his album, *[A Closer Look](/source/A_Closer_Look_(Babyface_album))*.[4]

## Reception

Craig Lytle, in his review of the album for [AllMusic](/source/AllMusic), called "Two Occasions" a "[quiet-storm](/source/Quiet_storm) classic" with "superb arrangement and production", declaring the song "worthy of a number-one ranking."[3] In 1989, the song won a [BMI](/source/Broadcast_Music_Incorporated) Pop Award.[5]

Although the band's first hit "[Body Talk](/source/Body_Talk_(The_Deele_song))" actually had a higher placement on the [R&B chart](/source/R%26B_chart), "Two Occasions" is widely considered The Deele's most successful single. It peaked at number 10 on the US [*Billboard* Hot 100](/source/Billboard_Hot_100), number four on the [Hot Black Singles](/source/Hot_Black_Singles) chart and number 21 on the [Adult Contemporary](/source/Hot_Adult_Contemporary_Tracks) chart.[2]

## Legacy

The song and Babyface were referenced by [Mariah Carey](/source/Mariah_Carey) in her 2005 hit song, "[We Belong Together](/source/We_Belong_Together)", and sampled in the remix.[6]

It was also sampled in the song "I Still Love You" by [Next](/source/Next_(American_group)).
