===Location===
The municipality lies on the river [Twiste](/source/Twiste_(Oste)), a tributary to the Diemel, itself a tributary to the [Weser](/source/Weser). Twistetal is only a short way downstream from, and southwest of, the [Twistesee](/source/Twistesee), a [man-made lake](/source/reservoir_(water)). It is located about 6 kilometers southwest from Bad Arolsen.

Twistetal borders in the north and east on the town of [Bad Arolsen](/source/Bad_Arolsen), in the southeast on the town of [Waldeck](/source/Waldeck%2C_Hesse), in the southwest on the town of [Korbach](/source/Korbach) and in the west on the municipality of [Diemelsee](/source/Diemelsee) (all in Waldeck-Frankenberg).
