# Turntable Kitchen

***Turntable Kitchen*** is a [Seattle](/source/Seattle)-based daily [Internet](/source/Internet) publication and independent record label devoted to [music criticism](/source/Music_journalism), [cooking](/source/Cooking) and [food photography](/source/Food_photography). In part, the site has become known for their "Musical Pairings" which consist of recommending music to listen to while enjoying specific recipes.[1][2][3] The site was founded by husband and wife duo Kasey and Matthew Hickey[4] in 2010.[5] The focus of the Musical Pairings is on [indie rock](/source/Indie_rock). However, the range of musical [genres](/source/Genre) covered extends to [pop](/source/Pop_music), [r&b](/source/Rhythm_and_blues), [hip hop](/source/Hip_hop_music), [folk](/source/Folk_music), [jazz](/source/Jazz), [World music](/source/World_music), and various forms of [electronic dance music](/source/Electronic_dance_music). They have previously been selected by Saveur Magazine as a "Site We Love".[6] In 2011, Turntable Kitchen launched a monthly [subscription service](/source/Subscription_service) called the Pairings Box.[7][8] Each shipment of the Pairings Box includes a vinyl record, a collection of three recipes, spices and other dry ingredients used in preparing the recipes, and a "digital mixtape" of new music.[1] The Pairings Box has released exclusive debut singles by indie artists including GEMS, IYES, Cathedrals, Salt Cathedral, and BASECAMP. The Pairings Box has also featured exclusive releases by artists and bands including [Mikal Cronin](/source/Mikal_Cronin), [MØ](/source/M%C3%98), [Typhoon](/source/Typhoon_(American_band)), [Local Natives](/source/Local_Natives), and [POP ETC](/source/POP_ETC).[9] Turntable Kitchen has been featured in [UrbanDaddy](/source/UrbanDaddy),[10] Real Simple,[11] and GOOD Magazine.[12]
