A '''turnaround document''' is a paper document containing computer-generated output that can also be used as a computer input, usually after the addition of some extra information by the user.

For example, meter cards are produced for collecting readings from [gas meter](/source/gas_meter)s, photocopiers, water meters, etc. The cards are filled in by the customer and then returned to the company for [scanning](/source/image_scanner) using ICR ([intelligent character recognition](/source/intelligent_character_recognition)) to quickly produce customer [bill](/source/Bill_(payment))s. Earlier versions used [punched card](/source/punched_card)s, sometimes with [mark sense](/source/mark_sense) technology.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/53248/turnaround-document|title = Definition of turnaround document}}</ref> The use of meter cards has largely been replaced by fully-electronic systems including billing and payment over the internet.
