'''Turkmenidae''' is an extinct [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) of [lamprids](/source/Lampriformes) from the [Paleogene](/source/Paleogene) of the west-central Asia, in what was formerly the Peri-[Tethys Ocean](/source/Tethys_Ocean).<ref>[http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=249203]"The first fossil ribbonfish (Teleostei, Lampridiformes, Trachipteridae)"</ref> They were small, disk-shaped fish that bore a strong resemblance to their closest living relatives, the [opah](/source/opah)s.

''[Turkmene](/source/Turkmene)'' and ''[Danatinia](/source/Danatinia)'' are found in the [Thanetian](/source/Thanetian) epoch (of the [Paleocene](/source/Paleocene)) sections of the [Danata Formation](/source/Danata_Formation) of Turkmenistan. ''[Analectis](/source/Analectis)'' is found in [Late Oligocene](/source/Late_Oligocene) strata in [North Caucasus](/source/North_Caucasus), Russia. After the extinction of ''[Analectis](/source/Analectis)'', Turkmenidae disappears from the fossil record.<ref>{{Cite journal |last=S.v |first=Popov |last2=M.a |first2=Akhmetiev |last3=E.m |first3=Bugrova |last4=A.v |first4=Lopatin |last5=O.v |first5=Amitrov |last6=A.s |first6=Andreyeva-Grigorovich |last7=N.i |first7=Zaporozhets |last8=V.v |first8=Zherikhin |last9=V.a |first9=Krasheninnikov |last10=I.a |first10=Nikolaeva |last11=E.k |first11=Sytchevskaya |last12=I.g |first12=Shcherba |date=2002 |title=BIOGEOGRAPHY OF THE NORTHERN PERI-TETHYS FROM THE LATE EOCENE TO THE EARLY MIOCENE: PART 2.
