# Tullycarnet

**Tullycarnet** is an area of east [Belfast](/source/Belfast), [Northern Ireland](/source/Northern_Ireland). It is a built-up area, mostly residential, that lies around 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) to the east of [Belfast City Hall](/source/Belfast_City_Hall). It borders [Dundonald](/source/Dundonald,_County_Down) to the west, and the main thoroughfare is Kings Road.

## Name

The name "Tullycarnet" is from the [Irish](/source/Irish_language) *Tulaigh Charnáin* ("hillock of the little [cairn](/source/Cairn)"). It is not known where the original cairn was.[1]

## Amenties and sport

Local facilities include the [Comber Greenway](/source/Comber_Greenway) (a long cycle/recreational path through east Belfast), a public library,[2] Tullycarnet Park,[3] and Tullycarnet Community Centre (hosting a number of leisure activities).[4] [Tullycarnet F.C.](/source/Tullycarnet_F.C.), an [association football](/source/Association_football) club named for the area, entered the [Northern Amateur Football League](/source/Northern_Amateur_Football_League) in 2011.[5]
