**Tsovategh** ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Ծովատեղ) or **Zavadykh** ([Azerbaijani](/source/Azerbaijani_language): *Zavadıx*) is a village located in the [Khojavend District](/source/Khojavend_District) of [Azerbaijan](/source/Azerbaijan), in the region of [Nagorno-Karabakh](/source/Nagorno-Karabakh). Until 2023 it was controlled by the breakaway [Republic of Artsakh](/source/Republic_of_Artsakh). The village had an ethnic [Armenian](/source/Armenians)-majority population[2] until the [expulsion](/source/Expulsion_of_Nagorno-Karabakh_Armenians) of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan following the [2023 Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh](/source/2023_Azerbaijani_offensive_in_Nagorno-Karabakh).[3]

## History

During the [Soviet](/source/Soviet_Union) period, the village was a part of the [Martuni District](/source/Martuni_District_(NKAO)) of the [Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast](/source/Nagorno-Karabakh_Autonomous_Oblast).

## Historical heritage sites

Historical heritage sites in and around the village include a 12th/13th-century [khachkar](/source/Khachkar), the 17th-century church of *Surb Astvatsatsin* ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Սուրբ Աստվածածին, lit. 'Holy Mother of God'), the church of *Karmir Yeghtsi* ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Կարմիր եղցի) built in 1621, and an 18th-century [manor house](/source/Manor_house).[1]

## Economy and culture

The population is mainly engaged in [agriculture](/source/Agriculture) and [animal husbandry](/source/Animal_husbandry). As of 2015, the village has a municipal building, a house of culture, a school, and a medical centre.[1]

## Demographics

The village has an ethnic [Armenian](/source/Armenians)-majority population, had 151 inhabitants in 2005,[4] and 159 inhabitants in 2015.[1]
