A '''trioxide''' is a [compound](/source/chemical_compound) with three [oxygen](/source/oxygen) atoms.  For metals with the M<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> formula there are several common structures.  Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, Cr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, Fe<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, and V<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> adopt the [corundum structure](/source/corundum_structure).  Many rare earth oxides adopt the "A-type rare earth structure" which is [hexagonal](/source/hexagonal).
