**Trifluoroethylene** (abbreviated as **TrFE**[3]) is an [organofluoride](/source/Organofluoride) compound with the chemical formula C2HF3. It is a colourless gas.[1] TrFE can polymerise to form [poly(trifluoroethylene)](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Poly(trifluoroethylene)&action=edit&redlink=1) (PTrFE). It can also form [copolymers](/source/Homopolymer) with other monomers, such as [vinylidene fluoride](/source/Vinylidene_fluoride) to form a co-polymer that is used to produce [ferroelectric materials](/source/Ferroelectric_material).[4]
