== History ==
Utel was created in January 1992 by a joint venture of [AT&T](/source/AT%26T) (19.5%), [Deutsche Telekom](/source/Deutsche_Telekom) (19.5%), [PTT Telecom](/source/KPN) (10%); the remaining 51% belonged to thirteen Ukrainian state telecommunications operators, which were later consolidated into [Ukrtelecom](/source/Ukrtelecom).<ref>{{cite web|url=https://delo.ua/special/ukrainskie-telekommunikacii-za-20-let-nezavisimosti-sozdanie-ry-163918/|title=Украинские телекоммуникации за 20 лет независимости: создание рынка «с нуля»|lang=ru|date=2011-09-06|accessdate=2025-08-25|publisher=delo.ua}}</ref> The company launched Ukraine's first commercial [3G](/source/3G) [cellular network](/source/cellular_network) based on the [UMTS](/source/UMTS)/[HSDPA](/source/HSDPA) standard on November 1, 2007.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.telegeography.com/products/commsupdate/articles/2007/11/06/3g-arrives-in-ukraine/ |title=3G arrives in Ukraine |publisher=TeleGeography |date=2007-11-06 |accessdate=2018-07-27}}</ref>

Until 2015, 3Mob was the only network in Ukraine that provided UMTS 2100 service (other providers provided data services on EDGE and CDMA technology). Its 3G coverage exists only in [Kyiv](/source/Kyiv), while free 2G/3G roaming is available in Vodafone-Ukraine network.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Карта покриття 3G|url=http://3mob.ua/map|access-date=2022-01-11|website=3mob.ua}}</ref>
