A member of the [Yukon New Democratic Party](/source/Yukon_New_Democratic_Party), he served as the party's [interim leader](/source/Interim_leader_(Canada)) in 2000 following the resignation of [Piers McDonald](/source/Piers_McDonald). Following his stint as the party's interim leader, he resigned from the legislature and was succeeded by [Jim McLachlan](/source/Jim_McLachlan) of the [Yukon Liberal Party](/source/Yukon_Liberal_Party) in a [by-election](/source/by-election).

Following his retirement from politics, Harding moved to [Calgary](/source/Calgary), [Alberta](/source/Alberta) and launched Zero Gravity, a marketing and communications company.
